Mark Morgan elected President of Flood Protection Authority

Founder and Principal of  Baton Rouge based SEMS Inc. was elected President of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – East.   Morgan will serve from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.

After Hurricane Katrina, the State of Louisiana determined there was a need to regionalize levee districts to coordinate plans, projects, and procedures to better protect its citizens in the event of future storms.  The Flood Protection Authority worked closely with the US Army Corps of Engineers on design and construction of the largest flood protections system in the world, Hurricane Storm Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS). Once the project was completed, the operation and maintenance responsibilities were transferred to the Flood Protection Authority.

The Flood Protection Authority is governed by a nine-member Board of Commissioners appointed by the Governor.  Mark Morgan was appointed to serve on the Board of  the Flood Protection Authority-West when it was created by an act of the State Legislature in 2006, and later transferred to serve on the Flood  Protection Authority East.

“When Governor Blanco first assigned me to serve on both the Flood Authority and Coastal Protections and Restoration Authority (CPRA) boards 15 years ago, I had no idea that I would spend nearly a quarter of my life improving flood protections” said Morgan.  “Today, I am proud of the influence the Board has provided”.
